The Art of ALIEN is an exhaustive, high-definition art book featuring more than 300 high definition images from the highly acclaimed Alien game developed by the independent studio Creative Assembly. Based on the classic sci-fi movie starring Sigourney Weaver, The Art of ALIEN is an evolution of the long-awaited third chapter in the epic sci-fi movie series featuring the adventures of the colony crew of the USS Enterprise. From the highly acclaimed PC game series, The Art of ALIEN promises to be a real treat for fans of the Alien films as well as fans of fine art. The book contains a wealth of high resolution photos, featuring every Alien character, crew members, environments and landscapes. The images are designed so that they can seamlessly be used in conjunction with custom digital art work applications.
Fans of the Alien films will enjoy this exciting art book. Although it is not based on the actual works of the film, The Art of ALIEN does come close to following in the footsteps of the third film in the series. Continuing the tale set five years after the events of the first movie, The Art of ALIEN traces the efforts of the explorers aboard the Enterprise to Mars in search of a new planet. Although they succeed in Mars, the crew of the Enterprise discovers that the planet possesses a dangerous environment that kills all but one lifeform. In order to survive, the crew must develop a stronger sense of faith and understanding or be turned into a meal for the xenomorphs.
As a fan of the Alien films, I was eager to see the conclusion of the story based on the original sci-fi movie. Although I enjoyed the first two Alien movies, the third installment improved on the previous films. What really sold me on the film was the talented work of visual effects. The amazing visual effects were enhanced by the well choreographed battles and explosions. This added a more realistic and believable element to the entire film. The use of blue screen, special effects, and well choreographed action truly helped to make this film a unique piece in the sci-fi field.
In the art gallery, The Art of Alien, several artists have attempted to interpret the events and depicted a sci-fi version of the film. These artists clearly succeeded in recreating aspects of the original movie and filled their versions with their own artistic interpretation. Many of these artists chose to highlight certain scenes or portrayed different personalities as different species of alien. While there was some improvement upon the original movie, many aspects of the film still appear to be similar to fan favorites.
While I was enjoying the special effects and fine art from the concept art book, I was also excited to find out that they had made use of the popular band Xenon Pearl. Xenon Pearl has become well known throughout the science fiction community and was featured in several different science fiction novels and short stories throughout the late sixties and early seventies. In fact, the singer was so impressed with the quality of the art book that he personally signed it and gave it to fans as a birthday present. That is exactly what makes this item so valuable to true fans of the alien franchise and those who just like to have original alien artwork and concept art in a collection.
Some of the artists included in the book did a good job recreating the alien creatures that were featured in the film. However, there were some which were clearly inspired by the original but failed to match the design. For instance, many alien creatures were shown with two eyes that are much larger than the other. It could be argued that since the film features an evil race who have only one eye, this could be a mistake. However, since the character is so evil and menacing, it is understandable that he has two eyes.
As I mentioned before, concept art can be a great supplement to a collection of alien art. Usually, an individual will find that their favorite alien and novella are missing some pieces of this art style. This is especially important if the book or collection is focused around a theme, a particular film or episode. Concept art will show what specific creatures were seen in each scene or environment. It will also explain how the environment was depicted and any details that weren't shown in the shot.
If you are a fan of the movies, science fiction or just generally cool sci fi movies in general then you will want to add this collection to your collection. The price for this type of art will start at around forty dollars. There are also several different versions available for purchase. The majority of these items are limited editions that are difficult to find elsewhere, therefore you may want to invest in them.
