If you love to do your own handiwork, one of the easiest things to create is a beautiful turquoise tie dye wallpaper design. It doesn't take much skill to make a nice pattern out of the gorgeous stone, and it does not have to cost a fortune either. All that's needed is some inspiration and a few tools. With a little bit of practice and the right tools, you can create an outstanding design using nothing but leftover turquoise from a previous project.
First choose the best color and pattern for the wall, then select a pattern from your favorite magazine or online. If you are making tie dye designs, you may want to start with a plain rectangular tile, and work around it to form the pattern on the walls. If you are doing a free-form look, use a different colored tile to start with. Then you can paint and decorate in a free style, depending on your mood.
Next, remove any loose tiles and other debris from around the edges of the wall. Now you can begin building your turquoise tie dye pattern, just as you would with any other pattern. Use a large piece of board or craft paper to create a template, press down on each side at least three times, and then simply roll the template over until you obtain the desired result. For smaller areas, such as the corners of the tile, simply overlap the first piece of paper by one square inch. You can also use a different size templates for different areas, and they will be easier to cut because they won't overlap.
Once you have installed your turquoise dye wallpaper, carefully apply a thin coat of turquoise fabric paint to the walls. Let the fabric dry overnight, and then carefully wipe away any excess paint. Avoid the area that is painted and always tape up the edges of your fabric to prevent the paint from rubbing off. Now it's time to place your tiles in their place.
The first row of tiles should go across the border of the first panel. Lay a tile, face down, across the first row, press it down a few times to ensure even spacing, and then tuck the rest of the fabric underneath it. The second row of tiles should go across the border of the second panel, and then lay a tile, face up, across the second row. This tile should be centered across the third panel. Continue in this manner until all the tiles have been placed, making sure they are equally spaced and organized.
Now you're ready to place your tie dye wallpaper in the exact positions as the tiles. Lay the fabric underneath the tiles and tuck the fabric underneath each tile as you go. Remember not to overlap the tiles. Once you're happy that your design is in the correct position, start taping the entire project up.
Once you're done, pull the fabric snugly against the wall to hold it in place. You can then use a hot iron to finish the design. If your fabric starts to fray at the edges, lightly iron the edges using a white iron. You may also want to spray wax on the fringes to keep the fabric from wrinkling. Let your tie dye wallpaper sit for about two weeks before you apply the first layer of paint, but don't apply the wax until after the paint dries.
If you want your tie patterns to last, you should clean the fabric before you start applying the paint. Use a mild soap to wash the fabric and rinse out completely. After you're done cleaning, use a heat gun to help get the fabric nice and smooth again. Finally, apply the paint and let the tiles set for a day before applying the last layer of finishing.
