Michael Lamar White III, also known as Trippie Redd, an American rapper, artist, and songwriter, is the founder of the rap group, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. His first album, A Love Letter To You, and its smash hit “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” quickly catapulted him into stardom. He is now one of the most well-known and popular artists in the rap industry. His albums have sold millions of copies worldwide, and he has written some of the most enduring music for both his own band and solo projects.
In his own words, Trippie Redd's life has been shaped in many ways by the influence of his mother and grandmother. His early childhood was one of the roughest in America's inner cities. The streets were dirty and drugs were plentiful. Despite this, Trippie took the time to learn guitar and percussion from a young age. At age twelve, he was even arrested on suspicion of carrying illegal drugs. His father would go on to become an alcoholic and died when Trippie was sixteen.
As a teenager, Trippie's life was quite different. He did well in school but found himself constantly in trouble for fighting and vandalism. He joined a gang, the Bloods, to be a member of a group of young men who fought against drugs and violence. He later moved to Los Angeles, where he met fellow gang member Chad Chanel. Chanel became his girlfriend, but later they broke up. The couple would eventually marry and have a son, Michael.
After graduating from high school, Trippie and Chanel moved to California to attend Pepperdine University, a private Christian institution located on the campus of Christ's College. In addition to his studies, he also began his rap career by performing in a local rock band called The Fearsome Few. They went through two albums before the group dissolved in 1980. He made a brief return to recording in the mid-1990s, however, with the album Rock N Roll Jesus.
After several years of touring and writing and producing music, Trippie began working on his first solo record, entitled “Love Scars To Your Beautiful.” The record received positive reviews and was covered by major newspapers and publications throughout the country. After the album was released, he decided to make his debut as a solo artist. He signed a deal with Atlantic Records, the largest record label in America, and began to perform as a member of The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
With the success that “Love Scars To Your Beautiful” received, the Chili Peppers began working on new material and signed a new deal with Atlantic Records and the Red Hot Chili Pepper Records. The band soon became one of the most popular and respected bands in America.
