What is required for a Discover card? You must have a very good to excellent credit rating to qualify for most Discover cards, but typically there is no minimum score required for any of the Discover cards. You can get the Discover it secured card with a poor credit rating (under 640). But it will be difficult to get this kind of card if your credit is so poor that you can't even get a traditional credit card.
Credit Karma scores also known as FICO scores are used by lenders to determine if you are a safe bet or not. Lenders use your credit scores to determine how much of a risk you are for lending you money. In other words, your score gives the lender an idea of what kind of risk he is taking when approving you. Having a low score makes you a high-risk customer, which means you will be turned down and charged higher interest rates. Having a higher score makes you a safer risk.
Lenders use these scores to determine if you are worth giving a loan to based on your credit rating. When you go to apply for a new job, lenders check your credit report first. If your score is below the national average then your application may be turned down. Many times job applicants will dispute inaccurate information on their report and wait for the lenders to correct it. But unless you pay the fees to dispute inaccurate information, the inaccurate information stays on your credit report.
Some consumers don't realize that credit bureaus also keep track of your credit karma or FICO score. The credit bureaus do not use FICO scores directly but they use a combination of your credit karma and your FICO score. If your credit karma is lower than your FICO score then you will have less influence in the auto loan approval process. Lenders prefer to take people with higher credit scores because they are considered a higher risk.
Your credit scores are affected by the type of lender you apply to as well as the type of credit account you have open. Some lenders look only at the debt ratio, while other lenders look at the overall debt to income ratio. Some lenders only look at the open accounts, while other lenders look at any open revolving accounts you have like mortgages. So if you have two mortgages from different lenders then it will affect your overall score. Having one open account may decrease your overall score as well as having no revolving accounts. In . . . . . . short, everything that affects your FICO score can also affect your auto loan.
There are many ways to get free credit reports. You can request them online. You will need to provide your name, address, social security number, date of birth and employer if you have one. Then you will need to choose how you want the report. You have the option to order it through the mail or through your credit card.
Another way to get free credit reports is through lenders such as American Express, Discover and Chase. These lenders will send you one free copy per year. The scores they provide to you are based on information provided by the three major credit reporting agencies. Each of these agencies is responsible for creating their own scores. Because there are several different factors that go into the creation of these scores, all of them have different scores for different consumers.
You should compare all of the credit reports that you receive each year. You will want to pay special attention to your auto loan, job history and any collection account that may be showing on your credit reports. This will help you learn what areas you should work on to improve your credit scores. If you do this on a regular basis, you can begin to repair your scores within just a few years. Then you will know that you are in good shape and can enjoy the financial benefits that will come along with a better credit rating.
