It can be very frustrating when you receive an acceptance letter from a company that says your Visa/MC card has been rejected due to one reason or another. Before accepting your Visa/MC gift card it's important to first check the reason for the rejection and what will happen next. Following are some tips on how to know if your Visa/MC gift card was declined:
– If you receive a call from a customer service representative informing you that your Visa/MC gift card has been declined because you do not meet the requirements for acceptance, hang up the phone. If you are not a resident of the United States, or if you are not in the country when the rejection happened, write down your information and alert the company that you are NOT a United States citizen and you are not a resident of the United States. By doing this, it makes the processing of your claim easier for the customer service representative. Also, by stating that you are not a resident of the United States, it complicates matters for the company and it may result in your receiving a partial refund of your money instead of a full refund.
– Look at the back of your Visa/MC gift card to see the number on the back of your card that identifies it as a Visa/MC debit card. If there is a zero on the back of your card (or if the billing number is a different number than on the back of the card), the card balance is less than the maximum amount that Visa/MC can offer you in a credit card account. In other words, the card balance is lower than the maximum amount that Visa/MC can offer you for your purchase amount.
– You may also want to check the back of your Visa/MC gift card to see if you can use the card to pay for your purchases. Usually, if you can use your Visa/MC gift card at a gas station, grocery store, etc., you will be able to use it to pay for your purchases. If not, you will need to use cash or another form of payment for your purchases. Again, the information on the back of your Visa/MC gift card should tell you how many stores you can use the card at. So, if you do not have any credit, you will need to get a cash advance or use your Visa/MC debit card to make your purchases.
– Another question that you may have is whether you can still use your Visa/MC gift card even if you don't have any credit. You will want to know if you can still make purchases like you would normally make. This is usually a good thing if you can still make purchases at stores where you normally would be able to make purchases.
– Can I still use my Visa/MC gift card at a restaurant? Some restaurants will let you . . . . . . use your Visa/MC gift card for your purchase. They will usually have an area just for Visa/MC purchases. You will have to ask first. In other words, you may have to research the location to see if they allow this type of gift card.
– Do you have to use a toll free number to make purchases on the back of your Visa/MC gift card? A toll free number is usually reserved for emergencies, and it must be used to make purchases. You will have to call the toll free number, and the operator will give you the pin number to use to make your purchase. Your PIN is usually given to you once you have entered the toll free number. Make sure you read everything that the operator tells you before making your purchase.
– Do you have to have at least $200 dollars on the Visa/MC gift card even if you don't use it anymore? You can still use it as long as you still have at least that much available on your bank account. Banks will only deduct the amount of available money when you use your Visa/MC gift card. When you call to get your balance increased, you will be charged an extra fee. If you don't mind paying that extra fee, you can continue to use your Visa/MC gift card even if you have paid off your balance. Just remember that you cannot spend more than you have at least $200 available on your bank account to use as cash.
