DeathraceForLove is the third studio album by hip hop artist Juice Wrld and his last release before his death. It was released in May of 2020, via Grade A Records and released by Interscope Music. It has received positive reviews from several publications including Hip Hop World, No Jumper, XXL Magazine and Spin.
The DeathraceForLove album was produced by Juice Wrld himself. This allows the rapper a lot more freedom in terms of mixing and writing music, unlike with his earlier albums, which were generally produced by big-name rappers. For example, Big Daddy Kane and Eminem had previously produced his songs, but with this record, he was not limited to them. Instead, he decided to go with another producer from his hometown, Atlanta.
On the surface, DeathraceForLove sounds much like the previous albums by Juice. However, unlike some of his previous tracks, it is a little different and more unique than any of his previous albums. The first two records were usually very similar in their subject matter, which is why many people are saying that they sound nothing alike.
Most of the production on the album is done by Atlanta producer Joseph Simpson. Simpson has done well with the likes of J Dilla and Kanye West. DeathraceForLove was recorded on ProTools, which was then mastered on tape by Pharrell Williams, the same producer that worked on the Kanye West single 'Through the Wire'. It also features production from Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. The most notable producer on the record is Simpson, who can produce some of the finest beats on the radio.
Unlike some other rap producers, Simpson seems to have a high level of respect for his craft and is willing to share that knowledge with other producers. He knows that some of his listeners might not be used to having an experienced hip hop producer like Simpson around. In a way, this allows Simpson to take advantage of his popularity to make some changes and improvements in his music that are bound to get him some kind of recognition.
Although it's his last record, DeathraceForLove still provides insight into the life that Juice lived. There is an interview section that includes Juice talking about his childhood and how he got into hip hop, as well as his thoughts on living in the present. This provides a great listen and provides insight into the mentality that hip hop artists must have when they're at the top of their game.
