Born on June 18, 1998, Michael Lamar Whitaker, known by his stage name Trippie Redd, is a hip-hop musician, actor, and musician who have become internationally famous for his original debut mixtape, A Love Letter to You (2020), and its first single, “Love Scars.” His second single, “Trippy” reached the Top 40 of the Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
Whitaker's personal life has been the subject of much controversy since his first album. According to various media outlets including People and the New York Times, Whitaker is married several times and had a long-term relationship with the mother of his two children. Other than his marriage, Whitaker was married and has children, one with former girlfriend Rihanna, another with actress Demi Moore, as well as a son from his relationship with her mother. Although the tabloids have portrayed Whitaker as a bad father, his children are well-adjusted and do not seem to hold any ill will towards their father or mother.
When the rap game was starting to mature, Whitaker decided to pursue acting in films, including a cameo appearance in the film X-Men: The Last Stand, as well as being cast in the short-lived soap opera General Hospital. According to the Trippie Redd website, Whitaker hopes to continue working in the music industry in a variety of capacities, such as producer, rapper/songwriter, actor, etc.
Aside from his role in the television series X-Men: The Last Stand, Whitaker has appeared on numerous films and TV shows such as The Sopranos, ER, Glee, Dexter, and Grey's Anatomy. He has also lent his voice to the animated television series, Bob the Builder and the video game The Simpsons: Hit the Road Jack, among many others.
According to the Trippie Redd website, Whitaker is not interested in becoming a religious person. “I just do what feels good for me,” he says. Whitaker has said that he considers his success as a singer a sign of God's love and that it helps him relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of his daily life. In addition to his musical career, he hopes to pursue acting roles in movies, television shows, and more. He also hopes to be a teacher in high schools and colleges to help teach music, in hopes that he can teach people to appreciate music.
“There is a lot to learning about the world around us that we all need to look at,” Whitaker says. “The world is a lot bigger than what you see with a camera lens,” he adds.
